In 1993, Skip and the Rusbosin family formed the Four County Athletic Association which included baseball, football and soccer; in addition to many other sports. The goal of FCAA was to bring a better sports experience to Mount Airy. When it came specifically to baseball, Skip knew that the games, practices and organization needed structure. He wanted the rules to be the same for all players and teams, so he turned to Little League International. In the Spring of 1994, Skip worked with his Board of Directors and Maryland District 2 Little League to charter the first Little League organization in Mount Airy - Four County Athletic Association became Four County Little League. And now we're still going strong giving the community a great baseball experience!
Not only is Skip the founder of Four County Little League, but he's also a Town of Mount Airy Hometown Hero. You can read more about his story here.
RUSSELL WINDSOR
Who is our field named after?
Russell Windsor lived at the property where the field is located and sadly passed away in a motor vehicle accident in 1997. He was a member of several sports teams in high school and played for the Frederick Babe Ruth League. The donations that the family received were used to build the field and a memorial for Russell is located at the top of the hill near the church overlooking the property.
We were honored to have his family join us for the Spring 2022 Opening Night Ceremony as we unveiled our updated scoreboard signage.
